As an undergraduate program accredited by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), UMass Amherst BMB offers its students who are nearing graduation the opportunity to take the ASBMB Certification Exam. This national exam, given in the spring, assesses core competencies in BMB and thus allows students to demonstrate their proficiency in the discipline. Of the more than 1050 undergraduates at 76 ASBMB-accredited programs who took the exam this spring, 42.8% earned certification, and 11.6% of the total earned certification with distinction. Overall, 7 of the 11 BMB majors who took the exam this year scored high enough to earn certification, and 3 of these students earned the additional honor of certification with distinction. We congratulate these students on their accomplishment!
