Trees for bees at UMass
UMass is an accredited arboretum with over 8,000 trees! While many of us may first think of a meadow or a garden when we think of pollinator habitat, many native pollinators rely on trees and forests. Pictured here a mining bee (Andrena sp.) visits a serviceberry tree (Amelanchier sp.) on campus. Trees like serviceberry that bloom in early spring are especially important as they provide large amounts of food for pollinators at a time of year when little else is blooming.
