In fall 2025 UMass grounds installed a new pollinator garden at the top of Eastman Lane. Over 60 volunteers including students, faculty, and staff helped plant 2,700 plugs of native pollinator-friendly plant species. The garden was designed by senior landscape architect Cameron Roach, with support from Bee Campus Committee members and includes native plant species that bloom all year round to support pollinators from early spring to fall.
The plant list (below) includes flowering trees and shrubs which provide important food for bees in April and May. The garden also includes important caterpillar food plants, grasses for soil stabilization and to provide food for birds, and plant species used by pollen specialist bees.
