BDIC is introducing a pilot program that allows full-time students to enroll in a Univ+ session online course during the fall and spring semesters without incurring additional fees (tuition waiver), provided the course satisfies a BDIC curriculum requirement and is within a 4-credit limit.
Univ+ session are online classes offered through University Without Walls.
University session are in-person classes offered in fall and spring.
Univ+ Course Request Guidelines
- All Univ+ courses may be requested as long as the course:
- Meets BDIC curriculum guidelines and is used as a curriculum course.
- Students may request any Univ+ as long as it meets the BDIC curriculum guidelines and all pre-requsities are satisfied.
- If the Univ+ course is offered concurrently in-person (University session), it will only be approved if the corresponding University session course is restricted or closed to non-majors.
- All pre-requisites must be satisfied.
- ISOM courses must initially be requested through the BDIC Isenberg Course Request form. If a student does not receive enrollment through this process by the end of the registration period, they may seek the Univ+ option.
In addition the requested Univ+ course:
- Cannot be used to substitute the BDIC Integrative Experience (BDIC494I) or BDIC Junior Year Writing (BDIC350) requirement, nor can they be used exclusively to satisfy requirements for another major, minor, or certificate.
- Cannot be used exclusively to fulfill general education (gen-ed) or university-wide requirements.
- If a double major, student cannot request a Univ+ course from the department of their second major.
- Waiver will be approved for one Univ+ course maximum per fall and spring semester.
BDIC students will receive a tuition waiver for the approved Univ+ session course.
However, if the following rules are not met, the waiver will be revoked, and the student will be responsible for Univ+ tuition and fees.
- Univ+ course must be approved by BDIC.
- Students must be enrolled full-time and maintain enrollment in a minimum of 12 University credits during the semester. If enrollment falls below 12 credits, the tuition waiver will be revoked.
- Approvals are specific to each course request and cannot be transferred to other courses without BDIC advisor’s approval. If a student enrolls into a course that was not approved, the tuition waiver will be revoked.
- Submit a course request using the BDIC Univ+ Course Request Form.
Note: Do not enroll in the course until you have received approval from the BDIC office.
All Univ+ course requests will be carefully reviewed by the BDIC department. While we do our best to accommodate requests, approvals are subject to certain restrictions and cannot be guaranteed.
It is recommended that you enroll in an alternate class until your request is reviewed and you are notified of its status.
- Receive approval from the BDIC office.
- Enroll in the Univ+ Course.
- Once your request is approved, you will receive a Univ+ enrollment appointment in SPIRE.
- Enroll in Spire, navigate to 'Add, Drop & Edit Classes' and use 'Schedule Builder' to enroll in the approved course.
- Note: approvals are specific to each course request and cannot be transferred to other courses without advisor’s approval.
