Peggi Clouston on Development Board of Wood Education Institute

The Wood Education Institute (WEI) is a national community of educators, design practitioners and forest products industry professionals who are interested in the promotion of wood in structural applications. The mission of WEI is to "serve as a vehicle for the development, dissemination and maintenance of educational materials for use by universities nationwide for undergraduate, graduate, continuing education and instructor-development programs." The Institute has recently produced an online  program in wood engineering and design to aid in continuing education and university curricula nationwide. "The course is intended for practicing professionals who did not have a timber design course in their undergraduate program or would like to refresh and update their knowledge. This course allows industry practitioners to learn (or relearn) the fundamentals of designing with wood in a structured self‐paced environment." Register for the 2007 Wood Structures Symposium

Building with wood is building for the future Contemporary wood architecture demonstrates ingenuity and new direction. In the quest for sustainable building materials, life-cycle analysis studies consistently show wood as having top environmental benefits: it is energy efficient in production and operation; it absorbs and stores the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide; and it is renewable, recyclable, and sustainable. As a result, wood is becoming a material of choice in award winning environmentally green structures as well as a prominent building material used in showcase projects at world expositions. This two-day meeting will discuss and illustrate the latest innovations in wood architecture, engineering and construction. Topics include: contemporary wood architecture world-wide, wood and the environment, technological advances in green buildings, digital fabrication with wood and detailing of engineered wood products. A full day workshop by the American Wood Council on...
