Construction earnings data illustrates value of BCT education

A recently published interactive chart by the Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution illustrates earnings data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. The earnings profiles are separated by educational major and broken out as annual earnings and lifetime earnings. This set of charts (in part shown in the image above) illustrates quite nicely the earnings benefit in general of a bachelors degree and in particular of choosing a construction major. As shown in the image, a construction-related major's 50th percentile income is 36% higher than the average across all undergrad majors. This increases even further if a graduate degree is pursued. You can explore the data interactively for yourself here: http://hamiltonproject.org/earnings_by_major/...

“Completing the BCT program has put me in a strong position to succeed in the construction industry”

We just received a note from a BCT Alumnus: Professor Damery, I want to thank you for running such a fantastic BCT program. Completing the program has put me in a strong position to succeed in the construction industry and I have been employed at A/Z Corporation in North Stonington, CT for the last two months. I was hired as Project Controls Associate and I frequently reference the skills and knowledge I acquired throughout four years in the BCT program. When I interviewed for the job, I was asked in depth about the courses I took at UMass and my interviewers were very impressed. They were especially impressed with the emphasis BCT put on sustainable building practices. I want to thank you again for the work you have done with the BCT program and wanted to let you know how well it prepared me for a job in the industry. Hope all is well. Regards, Mark Gabrielle Project Controls Associate A/Z Corporation Glad to hear that, Mark!...

BCT Alumni Successful at Amherst’s Integrity Development & Construction Firm

We at BCT always love to hear what our alumni are doing. It was therefore very nice to see how successful two of our former students (from when we were called BMATWT) are at the local development and construction firm Integrity Development & Construction. Here are two features taken from recent press releases: Anna Novey (BS '04): Anna started working part time at Integrity in 2002 while completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Building Materials and Wood Technology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She joined the company full time after graduating in 2004, growing her experience in all aspects of the trade as she perfected her role as project manager. She is a licensed construction supervisor and is LEAD Certified. In late 2012, Anna Novey joined into a business partnership with Peter Jessop and Heidi Flanders of Integrity Development & Construction, Inc., in Amherst, MA. “I’ve grown up within the company,” Novey said, noting she started at Integrity while a sophomore in college....
