Courses
Construction Estimating (BCT 314) – Any successful building construction project relies on accurate and consistent cost estimates. This course provides students with the skills and background to perform construction estimating, bidding, and cost management. Lectures will cover quantity take-off from construction documents and estimate costs for material, labor, equipment, overhead, and profit. Students are required to prepare and submit a formal bid which details an estimate for a building construction project. Furthermore, students will also be introduced to leading construction estimating software utilized in the construction industry.
Jul 11, 2022 – Aug 19, 2022, In-Person (Amherst)
Introduction to CAD & BIM in Construction & Architecture (BCT 320) – This course provides students with a broad introduction into Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) with a focus on construction- and architecture-specific applications. By using industry-standard AEC software (such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Trimble SketchUp, and Autodesk Revit) in hands-on exercises, assignments and projects, students gain the capability to model construction projects and create and distribute industry-standard architectural drawings.
May 19, 2022 – Jul 1, 2022, On-Line
Sustainable Building & LEED Certification (BCT 414) – The LEED Professional Credentials indicate professional excellence and a strong depth of knowledge as well as practical understanding of the LEED Rating Systems and how they apply to the high-performance design and construction of the built environment. Preparing to take the LEED Green Associate and AP exams requires more than taking one course; it is a process that involves acquisition of disciplinary knowledge and understanding of complex building and environmental systems. This course introduces core concepts of the USGBC LEED Rating Systems and assists students in study and preparation for the LEED Green Associate exam.
Jul 11, 2022 – Aug 19, 2022, On-Line
Graduate section of BCT 414: Sustainable Building & LEED Certification (ECO 697GA)
Designing with 3D CAD and BIM (BCT 420) – Presents advanced topics in architectural and construction-focused CAD in a problem-based environment. Topics covered are: 3D modeling, digital fabrication, parametric building design, Building Information Modeling (BIM), material takeoff, building-energy analysis and planning, laser scanning, rendering and presentation. This course provides a thorough introduction into Autodesk Revit and covers applied topics in Trimble SketchUp, both industry-standard software in the AEC field. Basic previous CAD knowledge (e.g. in AutoCAD, SketchUp) is expected (e.g. from BCT 320 or a similar course).
May 19, 2022 – Jul 1, 2022, On-Line
Graduate section of BCT 420: Studies in Building Information Modeling (ECO 620)
LEED AP Exam Accelerator (BCT 597X) – This is an intensive course designed for those interested in pursuing the LEED Accredited Professional (AP) credential, as a part of the goal to become project managers in construction-related fields, or to upgrade existing skills and knowledge of sustainable development best practices. This course takes a deeper dive into the LEED credits, with an emphasis on knowledge required for the LEED AP exam; a valuable credential in today?s competitive job market. Structured assignments provide the opportunity to grasp real-world challenges and impacts, and to understand the dramatic increase in high performance building certifications during the last 20 years. The course content integrates tools such as customized study sheets, architectural models, practice exam questions, insights from practitioners, and other strategies designed to maximize knowledge retention and success in preparing for the LEED AP Exam. Open to all majors.
