Mac owners should follow the instructions on this page to install Windows on their computer so that you can run software like Revit. There are two options:
You have an (older) Intel-chip Mac
Install Bootcamp as soon as you can (i.e. before you run out of hard-disk space) so that you can install a dedicated Windows partition on the same computer. Reserve at least 64-128 GB for the Windows partition (we recommend 100 GB).
- For more on the Bootcamp installation, go here. There is also a nice instructional video here.
- Afterwards, you can get Windows from this IT software webpage to get a free copy of Windows (using the “Azure Dev Tools for Teaching” web store, find “Windows 11 Education” in the software list). Install it in the new Bootcamp environment.
You have a newer Apple-chip Mac
Bootcamp won’t work for you. Instead, install a virtual-machine software like VMware or Parallels and then run Windows in it. Note, however, that performance is a bit more limited because Windows will run inside your Mac operating system.
- Get VMware player (personal use edition) from here.
