Manage Energy & Moisture with Equal Intensity
Description:
Mr. Yost has been building, remodeling, assessing, and testing buildings for their energy and moisture performance for over forty years. His presentation will address the demands that occupants of our buildings and building professionals place on the structures we create. Two of those specific demands are moisture and energy. Mr. Yost will address the physics of those two specific demands and explain how they are inextricably linked. This presentation will illustrate how energy and moisture considerations should drive the efforts to design, build, and renovate healthy, durable, and fully functional working and living spaces.

Locally Grown Homes: Buildings As a Climate Solution
Description:
Mr. Bossie is an experienced craftsman and business owner. Throughout this presentation he will illustrate how locally sourced and biogenic building materials are transforming the construction industry into a driver of climate solutions. This lecture explores the potential of straw insulated structural panels (S-SIPs) and other biogenic building materials to reduce carbon emissions, promote housing equity, and support local economies. The audience will also have an opportunity to examine how biogenic building materials contribute to creating high-performance, healthy, and affordable homes, while addressing global environmental challenges.

Support the BCT Alumni Scholarship!
Give back to BCT and support our current students by donating to the newly-established BCT Alumni Scholarship Fund. We will use half of the donations for direct scholarships and will accumulate the rest until this fund can be endowed (which makes it a permanent source of scholarship funding). You can give to this fund online right here:
For Graduating BCT Students
As you all know, a good professional network is crucial to success in the “real world”. It can provide you with advice and feedback, job opportunities, and support for when professional life throws a curve ball at you. Having studied in BCT, you have already built up personal connections to fellow students that will be available to you even after you leave UMass. The university and BCT have various resources and are holding events specifically to help you build and maintain that network.
You can connect with us using the various social media connections mentioned on top of this page under “Stay in Touch!”. That way, you will get notified when we are organizing events or have job offers that may be of interest. Make sure you add yourself at least to our BCT (alumni) email list.
Also, upon graduation from BCT, you will receive an Alumni ID. Your first step then should be to register with the UMass Amherst Alumni Association.
This has various benefits for you – for example, you can get an alumni association forwarding email. It also allows us to better stay in touch with you. You will then be able to receive occasional notices of events at BCT.
Either way, we hope you check back in every once in a while and let us know what became of you. We are always curious to hear about our graduating students’ career paths.
