PLAIN DESIGN * BUILD works at the intersection of architecture and forestry with projects advancing contemporary forms of timber architecture. The talk proposes an architectural language for the emerging technology of engineered lumber construction highlighting forms of mass timber construction that support location-based material flows and non-extractive timber production. The lecture will also foster diverse forestry ecosystems and low embodied carbon, providing alternatives to mainstream timber construction.
