Course Description

This course covers fundamentals of construction project scheduling and control. Topics discussed are: schedule networks, critical path method (CPM), resource allocation, project control, program evaluation and review, cost forecasting, scheduled versus actual job expenditures, schedule risk control.

Students will be exposed to scheduling software (Primavera P6 or MS Project) in hands-on labs.

Open to Seniors, Juniors and Graduate students only.

Learning Goals

The goals of the Construction Scheduling and Project Control course are to:

  1. Build upon previous BCT CM classes and deepen student understanding of the concepts and principals of construction and project management.
  2. Develop an understanding of various techniques and applications used in planning and scheduling design and construction projects.
  3. Introduce the fundamentals and techniques for schedule monitoring, evaluation, schedule risk control, and control of project performance and earned value.
  4. Develop an understanding of the relationship between project planning and control, and cost estimating and
  5. Understand how to analyze and apply resources in a project efficiently, recognizing their restraints and conditions, including resource allocation and resource leveling.
  6. Develop a cost-forecasting model, and compare scheduled versus actual job expenditures.
  7. Introduce construction scheduling software and use of the computer as a tool in construction management, including application of scheduling software to particular scheduling projects.
