The University of Massachusetts is a land grant research university. Part of the broader mission of the University, and the Building and Construction Technology program in particular, is to provide outreach services to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the nation, and our professional discipline.

Faculty members provide extension services, public service and leadership through participation in a wide range of professional committees, governmental agencies, editorial boards, national panels, and advisory boards. Some of our faculty also participate in UMass’ Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (CAFE) and its extension programs. Furthermore, the Building and Construction Technology program performs contract work for professional and industrial clients.
