Lilly Barnett is a journalism and political science student from Fort Worth, Texas. She auditioned to be a featured twirler in April of 2022 and immediately committed to UMass once she earned a spot. Her first season with the UMMB was in the fall of 2022, and in the spring of 2023, she began twirling with the Hoop/Ice band and became a member of the UMMB merchandising staff, in addition to helping to run the social media accounts. After the 2023 marching season, she earned the position as the travel manager for 2024. A fun fact about Lilly is that she used to play bassoon for her high school’s wind ensemble and symphony orchestra. During her senior year of high school, her school’s orchestra traveled to perform at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago and the Texas Music Educators Association Music Convention in San Antonio. Lilly is really looking forward to being more involved in the UMMB for the upcoming season and getting to know more band members. Cara Rexroad is an Environmental Science and Natural Resource Conservation student from Jefferson, New Jersey. She joined Ad Staff after her first season in the UMMB and served on the Publicity & Recruitment Staff for a year before becoming PR Manager. In addition to playing trumpet in the UMMB, Cara is also a member of the Hoop/Ice band and UMass CHAARG. As Travel Manager, Cara is excited to become more involved with the UMMB and connect with more band members. Julia Plotniak

Julia Plotniak is a biology major with a biochemistry/molecular biology minor, currently applying into the 4+1 secondary education program. From South Hadley, MA, she was so inspired by the UMMB as a high school student that she decided to keep UMass on her college list, despite initial hesitations about applying. Now in her fourth season with the UMMB, Julia spent her first three years playing clarinet, but is switching things up and joining the tenor sax section for her final season. Last year, Julia became a part of the ad staff as a member of the uniform staff, and she is very excited to bring her leadership skills to the executive team. Outside of band and academics, she drives for UMass Transit’s Accessible Van Service, and substitute teaches at a local elementary school. She is passionate about making education inclusive and accessible, and enjoys collecting vinyl records and crafting. Julia is looking forward to connecting with new people this season, and is incredibly proud of her fellow ad staffers for all of their hard work!@email
