Dr. Nia Imara, from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, will present special lunch talk,"Star Formation Then and Now". Dr. Imara is a faculty candidate in Astronomy at Smith College and the Five College Astronomy Department.
Astronaut and UMass Amherst Alumna, Cady Coleman PhD (class of '91), will present, "Lessons from Space Lead Straight Back to Earth", Wednesday 2/27 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Commonwealth Honors College. This event is free and open to the public
The 25th Massachusetts Undergraduate Research Conference (MassURC) will take place on Friday, April 26th, 2019 in the Lincoln Campus Center at UMass Amherst. Abstracts and registrations are due by Friday, February 15 at 11:59 p.m.
Spring 2019 Journals Club begins February 4th. This semester's focus is "A Review of Cultural Issues Facing Astronomers".

The 2019 Dannie Heineman Prize was awarded to PhD Alumn Ted Bergin by the American Astronomical Society and the American Institute of Physics.
UMass Amherst will host the January 18-20 American Physical Society Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP).
The Astronomy Department will host the 5th New England Star Formation Meeting on January 18, 2019. The aim of this series of meetings is to bring together the students, postdocs, and faculty who are working on topics related to the Galactic star formation, in order to share recent research efforts.
