Professor Chiu received her BA in Chinese Language and Literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and her PhD in Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of California, Los Angeles. Professor Chiu’s research and teaching interests include traditional Chinese narrative and drama, Ming-Qing oral and performing literature, Manchu language, literature, and culture, as well as ethnicity and gender issues in late imperial and early Republican China.
Bruce Baird received his B.A. from Columbia University and his Ph.D. in Japanese language and literature from University of Pennsylvania. Research interests include Japanese dance (butoh), Japanese philosophy, Japanese new media studies, and Japanese performance. Teaching responsibilities include Japanese theater, Japanese manga and anime, Japanese video games, and Japanese film.
