The 9th Annual Five College Japanese Speech Contest was held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the UMass Amherst campus. We invited judges from the Five College community, along with Yasuhiro Yamauchi from the Consulate General of Japan to preside over the event. The contest began at 2:30 p.m. and the whole contest including the reception ended at 5:45pm.
We would like to share the list of UMass Japanese student awardees from the speech contest:
1st-year Level:
1st place: Josue Vaquerano from JPN246

2nd place: Guihui Yang (MHC)
「東京2020:私たちにできること」
3rd place: Ruijie Zhang from JPN 246
「サマーの夜空」
3rd place: Edmund Bates from Japanese 246
「小さな巨人」
2nd-year Level:
1st place: Jianuo Wu from Japanese 327, also selected as the contestant to participate in the Boston Japanese Language contest on April 6, 2019.

2nd place: Peike Ran from Japanese 327
「社会の闇に光を灯す推理小説」
4th-year Level:
Award of Excellence: Sean Flanagan, also selected as the contestant to participate in the Boston Japanese contest via another selection process administered by the Consulate General of Japan in Boston.
