Phallacies works to support masculinities that are healthy for individuals, families, and communities. We are committed to work toward a world free from violence and oppression. We are men who take responsibility for educating ourselves and each other, with care, compassion, and creativity.

We believe that dialogue and theater are powerful tools for change. Through workshops and trainings, presentations, consultation, and performances, Phallacies engages men in critical conversations and direct action to challenge mainstream ideas of masculinity and foster physical and emotional health and community well-being.

Amongst other things, we provide health education, violence prevention and leadership development aimed at men and boys in an effort to help promote masculinities that are healthy for individuals, families, organizations and communities. Using dialogue and applied theater, we expand definitions of masculinity, create healthier men and healthier communities.

Our performance pieces are generated during an ongoing dialogue process and then performed as educational and thought catalysts to encourage changing the cultural scripts about masculinities.

We are seeking male identified folks to join our performance troupe.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking interns to join the Phallacies performance troupe. The Phallacies men’s health dialogue and theater program is a national award-winning program where male identified individuals are welcome. We have two potential internship categories.

Performers
Interns in this category will learn about the Phallacies process of dialogue and performance in a supportive environment. You will learn the Phallacies model, engage in dialogue, and work to create online theatrical resources focused on healthy masculinities as part of an all male-identified group. Overarching topics are masculinity and intersecting identities, health, relationships, and violence. We meet weekly on Mondays, 6-9pm online. Some additional time may be necessary for writing, rehearsal, and recording. Historically performances have happened in various venues, with a primary focus on area secondary schools, as well as colleges and conferences. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are seeking to create online performance pieces and resources to be used in various settings. It’s deep, engaging, and fun. Theater experience is not required.

Social Media Managers
We are seeking an intern(s) to work with us to set up and implement a social media education plan. This will require an ability to work independently as well as in conjunction with the Phallacies director as we set work to create resources for various constituencies. Meeting times can be established that fit within intern schedules. There is a possibility that this could turn into a paid position.
