Professor La Follette and her Vexed Antiquities class took a trip off-campus this month to the Smith College Museum of Art. Check out what they saw and learned!
UMass Amherst Alumna Henriette Kets de Vries (Assistant Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs at the Smith College Museum of Art) speaks to Professor La Follette’s class in the Museum about the research she conducted on this SCMA altarpiece to insure it could be safely acquired (first photo on left).
Ms. Kets de Vries talks to Professor La Follette’s class in the Cunningham Center about her work doing Nazi-era provenance research with reference to research materials like compendia of paper watermarks and collector marks (photo on right).
Ms. Kets de Vries also showed the class how stamps and label son the back of paintings help elucidate the work’s journey over time and the hands through which it passed (second photo on left).
