In the Spring Semester we welcomed Alexandra M. Thomas, a PhD Candidate in History of Art and African American Studies at Yale University, to the department as a lecturer. She is working on a dissertation titled “Afrekete’s Touch: Black Feminist Errantry, Queer Materialism, and Global African Art.” Prof. Thomas taught three new courses that were well received by students: two undergraduate lectures courses, “Global Masquerade: Introduction to African and African Diaspora Art” and “Visualizing Black Queer Feminism,” and an undergraduate seminar on “Black Aesthetics and Globalization.” This coming Fall, Prof. Thomas will be teaching art history to first year MFA students at the Yale School of Art.
