MFA Candidate Boram Kim shares research with the UMass community

Our very own MFA Candidate, Boram Kim, was recently featured by the UMass Public Writing Fellows 2025 cohort. Fellow Julia P. Mohanty interviewed Kim, highlighting her research and experiences in the UMass Art Department as well as the ways in which her art practice extends beyond our campus.

An interdisciplinary artist with a wide research lens and an active member of our community, Kim brings energy and inspiration everywhere she goes. From the article: "Beyond inspiring the next generation, she notes how her research seeks to translate historical, ecological, and identifying themes into visual art. The beauty of this method is that it knows no bounds as  Kim prioritizes multidisciplinary collaboration, showing viewers that art can be a universal method of communicating complex concepts across disciplines."

Per the Public Writing Fellows Website: "In this program, graduate students work over the summer with a peer mentor group under the direction of the Office of Professional Development to write, revise, and polish a research communication news story. Participants also learn strategies to effectively communicate about their own research with non-experts.
