Herter Art Gallery is delighted to invite you to Instructions for Belonging: An Exhibition in Five Acts of Seeing, a collaborative exhibition by members of the fall 2025 Art 401 Professional Practices class.

In Instructions for Belonging: An Exhibition in Five Acts of Seeing, a group of 23 young artists guides viewers through their rehearsal for professional life. Filled with experimentation, imagination, and collaboration, the exhibition demonstrates each artist’s journey to find community and belonging among fellow creators. Each of the five acts is accompanied by a set of stage directions that offer insight and meaning into the works within, encouraging viewers to think deeply about each piece in context. The exhibition features works across disciplines and genres, showcasing the unique style and voice of each contributing artist as they carve out space for themselves in the artistic world. These young artists hope to find you along this path of discovery as they explore what lies ahead in their creative journeys.
