Collapsing Worlds brings together four artists whose work explores humanity’s rapid and destructive impact on the natural world. The pieces in the show portray the on-the-ground consequences of large-scale forces like climate change, deforestation, and mass endangerment of species.
In a painting by Alanna Johnston-Rutledge, smoke from California wildfires is seen, felt, and breathed in western Mass, thousands of miles from its source. In collages and lithographs by Campbell Lackey, scientific diagrams map out the connections between carbon dioxide, toxins, and greed. In a series of paintings by Josué Salazar, the January 2025 Hurst Fire ravages California’s San Fernando Valley. Cyanotypes by Will Johnston-Rutledge illustrate bird species, endangered and extinct, while animations by the same artist depict uncanny idyllic landscapes suffering from corruption, distortion, and ecological collapse.
The works in this show invite viewers to engage with a planet in transition and consider our role in both its decline and possible renewal. The show runs from March 24th - April 11th with an opening reception on March 28th from 6pm-8pm.
