Illusions of Certainty: Student Artists Responding to Current Times is a new exhibition at the Umass Student Union Art Gallery.

Conceived from the desire to navigate the complexities of our current times, particularly as it relates to the nuances of discourse, Illusions of Certainty aims to inspire personal reflection and direct engagement with one another.

The true value of Illusions of Certainty lies not solely in the individual experience gained from each artwork, but in the conversations they spark. We invite you to move beyond passive observation and consider the fundamental questions these works may provoke. We want to hear what shapes your perception of the world and how these works may have changed it. Are your interpretations subjective and rooted in personal experience? Do you perceive any objective truths? Perhaps your responses fall on a complex spectrum and require further deliberation with someone not present. We encourage you to look, listen, and record these works to visit them again outside of these walls.

If it is through collective inquiry that we can learn to respectfully approach and comprehend the diverse world views that shape our shared reality, then let these works be a catalyst for thoughtful exchange and a step towards empathy and understanding.

Illusions of Certainty will be on view from April 28th through May 9th.
