Studio Arts Building

The Bird-safe UMass team invites you to join us to celebrate a big triumph: installing bird-safe window film on the Studio Arts Building. The beautiful design was made by an undergraduate student from the Art Department as part of a campus-wide competition. Congrats to Margaret Lepeshkin!

Join us on Friday, May 9 from 3:00 - 5:00p at the Studio Arts Building for refreshments and celebration.

For context - The Bird Friendly UMass team is an interdisciplinary group of students and staff have been documenting the bird-window collisions at UMass for the past couple of years. Through daily survey efforts throughout spring and fall migration, they found the studio arts building, with its big glass atrium, to be particularly dangerous. The window decals help reduce collisions by 99%.

Hopefully this is the first of several retrofits of other buildings on campus - Isenberg, WEB Dubois Library, the ILC, Olver Design Building and Machmer are among the other high-fatality buildings.

We are excited for you all to see the window design and celebrate!
