Colors of Unity: Roundtable Discussion
Join us for Colors of Unity, an inclusive and collaborative event that seeks to explore and amplify collective efforts to combat discrimination through the lenses of art and community dialogue. Drawing inspiration from the impactful works of artists Sam Gilliam and Pacita Abad, this event intertwines guided discussions with hands-on art creation to foster understanding and solidarity around social justice themes.
Event Highlights:
- Guided Discussions: Hear from our distinguished guest speakers, including Professor Miliann Kang from the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Professor Vick Quezada from the Department of Art at Hampshire College. These scholars will discuss intersections of art, labor, migration, and social justice, each offering unique perspectives on how art serves as a powerful tool for community healing and activism.
- Round Table Discussion Overview for Guest Speakers: The discussion will focus on how art intersects with activism, community healing, and social justice. Key discussion topics will include:
- Art as a medium for addressing systemic inequities and supporting racial justice.
- The role of visual culture and educational practices in amplifying marginalized voices.
- Building inclusive spaces through Indigenous, Latinx, and immigrant perspectives to foster solidarity and resistance.
This event is open to the public and aims to provide an engaging and supportive space to discuss the significance of the “Stop Asian Hate” and “Black Lives Matter” movements while celebrating art as a catalyst for change.
