The entire faculty of the Department of the History of Art and Architecture surprised Prof. Walter Denny at the beginning of the last lecture in his last semester teaching History of Art 115, “Introduction to the Visual Arts.” Prof. Denny will retire at the end of the academic year. He has taught his signature class 48 times in this 53 years teaching at UMass, impacting generations of undergraduates and helping to train many, many graduate teaching assistants.
