Sarah Horowitz

Sarah Horowitz *14 is currently a PhD student in the History of Art and Architecture department at Boston University. Her research focuses on relationships among art, architecture, and display in the design of museums and cultural institutions from the postwar era to the present.

Previously, she was the Curatorial Assistant at the Picker Art Gallery and Longyear Museum of Anthropology at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. She has conducted provenance research on objects in the Picker Art Gallery’s collections and curated an exhibit featuring the work of multimedia contemporary artist, Jaye Rhee. Sarah was also the main author of the publication accompanying the exhibit, which includes a catalogue essay and interview with the artist. The broad background in the history of art she acquired in Art History at UMass Amherst was critical for her research projects at Colgate, where she dabbled in everything from American painting to Chinese woodblock prints. She also credits her experiences as a Curatorial Fellow at the University Museum of Contemporary Art and Collections Assistant at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art during her time at UMass. Both were incredibly beneficial in preparing her for a career in museums.
