3K: Awakening celebrates spring with 4 earth-inspired events at the Design Building Atrium. Refreshments served at 5:30.
Eric Hofbauer and The Five Agents Jazz Ensemble performs their new recording, Waking Up, which is inspired by the young climate activist Greta Thunberg delivered a speech at the UN Summit for Climate Action, in which she declared, “How dare you!” This will be accompanied by a dance performance by UMass Amherst jazz dancers with Lauren Cox.
At 5:30 Evan MacCarthy and Marjorie Rubright from The Renaissance of the Earth will present Ripple Effects: Reflections on Water in Story and Sound. Part of the multi-year arts and humanities project, Elements.
Close to 6, there will be a saxophone performance with Jonathan Hulting-Cohen and Pantelis Lykoudis called, Landscape of Fear, by Marcos Balter.
The evening will end with the atmospheric performance of Ghost Ensemble, who will present– Plant Life Recounted Here (Masaoka), and In Consideration of the Earth (Oliveros).
