This thesis was an investigation of the concept of place through the interrelationships between people, architecture and the landscape. The research challenges how the architect may assume the role as the curator of place rather than the creator of place. The interpretive design interventions are anchored in enriching place by responding sensitively to the unique ecological systems and cultural heritage of the post-industrial village of Woronoco, Massachusetts. The design process for each intervention is focused on the tactility of making as the primary method of re-connecting the community to this place.
