MArch + MRP dual‑degree student Krashang Giri Goswami represented UMass Amherst at CriticalMASS 2026, the national graduate architecture symposium hosted by UNC Charlotte on April 17.

CriticalMASS brings together final‑year architecture students from programs across the country for a day of dialogue, critique, and cross‑institution collaboration. This year’s distinguished critic was Bryan C. Lee Jr., architect and leading design‑justice advocate.

Krashang presented his dual‑degree thesis, “POST[SOV]: A [SPATIAL] Manifesto for [COLLAB]oration and [ADAPT]ation in Antarctica,” which explores how scenario planning and modular architectural systems can support more collaborative, adaptable, and reversible forms of occupation on the Fildes Peninsula.

Students from institutions including The Cooper Union, Pratt Institute, SCI‑ARC, Penn State, University of Michigan, Tulane, Virginia Tech, and others also participated.

Reflecting on the event, Krashang noted the value of sharing work with peers nationwide and receiving feedback from experienced critics—insight that has already strengthened his thesis.
