Assistant Professor Robert Williams’ on-going research into building codes and embodied carbon was published in the Journal of Green Building. His article, “Modern Building Energy Codes and Embodied Carbon: A Case Study of New Residential Construction in the Northeastern United States”, argues that recent increases in the energy performance requirements of building codes do not sufficiently account for embodied carbon and may, in fact, result in higher overall carbon emissions for new construction.
