Professors Naomi Darling and Ray Mann, principals of Ko-LAB Architecture, received a Citation Award from the 2025 New England AIA Award cycle for the Sunderland Riverside Park Kayak Kiosk and Restroom Renovation. The project began as a Fall 2019 Design V Studio project for the Sunderland, MA Public Library kayak lending program and was transferred into Darling and Mann’s professional office when the pandemic disrupted plans for a student design/build. Rachel Kosak (BS Arch ‘20) as well as other Design V students contributed to the Kayak Kiosk design and prototyping, and Jason Soares de Carvalho (MArch ‘24) assisted with the final buildout of the kiosk tables and panels. Alumnus and adjunct professor in structures Leonard Morse-Fortier helped ensure the structure’s minimalist elegance.
