Congratulations to the design team of High Street Homes Holyoke, Massachusetts, who won First Place and $10,000 in the state-wide Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston Affordable Housing Development Competition 2024! The winning proposal involves the transformation of 10 underutilized parcels in the heart of downtown Holyoke into a mixed-use development of 86 carefully crafted homes, 10,890 square feet of communal green space, and 30,116 square feet of community space which incorporates a daycare, residential amenities, rooftop gathering spaces, and community partnerships. UMass members of the team are Jason Soares de Carvalho (‘24MArch), Zahra Shah Mohammady (‘24MArch), Michael Chancellor (‘24March ‘24MLA), Samuel Hinrich (‘24BBA Management), Henry Schwartz (‘24BBA Finance) — with special thanks to alumnus John Gilbert, AIA (‘14MArch ‘24MBA) who as Project Manager for Way Finders served as a key professional liaison for the proposal. Other team members include Anna Kathryn Hodges and Rory Carrara (Clark University), Chrisoula Moraitis and Sabrina Silva (Wentworth University).
