Recently Department of Architecture Faculty have received notable grants to foster collaboration across departments at the university.
Mutual Mentoring Grant
Associate Professors Carey Clouse and Caryn Brause received a Mutual Mentoring Team Grant for the upcoming academic year for a proposal called "Leveraging Effective Approaches to Promotion (LEAP)." They will be working with colleagues from the departments of English and biology, as well as the College of Education to explore paths to promotion to full professor. Funding will provide opportunities for the group to identify additional mentors at UMass and elsewhere.
Design Thinking Grant
Assistant Professor Pari Riahi, together with two other faculty members - Modarres-Sadeghi from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Ali Sarvghad from the College of Information and Computer Sciences - received a $40,000 Interdisciplinary Faculty Research Award granted by the Office of the Provost to work on a project titled "Sustaining the Creative Arc: Implementing a Cross-Disciplinary Analysis and Problem-Solving Method for Design Thinking." During the academic year of 2020-21, the team, composed of professors and students, will investigate novel methods that can facilitate communication and collaboration between disciplines to create a multi-faceted method of approach for creative thinking, design intelligence and production of knowledge that is beneficial to each co-investigator’s respective field.
