Spring is conference season for architecture educators. UMass Department of Architecture faculty have been sharing their research interests with audiences around the country. At the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture's (ACSA) annual conference in Denver, CO, Associate Professor Pari Riahi chaired a session titled: "Drawing in the Post-Digital Era: From Exactitude to Extravagance." She was invited to participate in a JAE panel session titled, "The Project of Projection," which addressed how architects write and theorize about their projects. Riahi also presented with student Kevin McManus (BFA 2018), "Ecological Mediators," a competition done by an interdisciplinary team (Riahi, Caine, Loffler, McManus, and Roy). Assistant Professor Caryn Brause led a panel and workshop related to Technology | Architecture + Design Journal (TAD), and on beginning design.
At the National Conference on the Beginning Design Student (NCBDS) at the University of Cincinnati. Assistant Professor Sandy Litchfield gave a presentation titled, "Drawing the City: Nostalgic Timelines." Associate Professor Ray Mann and Five Colleges Assistant Professor Naomi Darling co-presented, "Cultural Precedents and Historic Artifacts as a Springboard for Beginning Design," and Caryn Brause presented on “Collaborative Beginnings: Developing Collaboration Skills in an Interdisciplinary Design Seminar."
