Gundström has researched sustainability issues from different perspectives; from issues of climatic design of buildings and cities in Tunisia and Morocco to design of housing with new, sustainable building materials in Sweden. From social issues of gender and equality in Costa Rica to sharing housing and designing co-housing in today's Stockholm and Malmo. From gated communities to environmental issues of spatial justice and the right of access to our common, public spaces. Theoretically, Grundstrom’s research is based in the daily use of the built environment, in practiced and lived space and in people’s shaping of the built environment.
