Five Sets of Magenta and Space
Closing Reception: Thursday, March 9th 4:30-6:00pm, Talk at 5:15
Haupt’s structured but non-representative painting builds color spaces on a surface forming the basis for cutouts. Five Sets of Magenta and Space, a collage of 5 paintings on paper, specifically made for the gallery wall, explores various techniques of painting and cutting. Viewing the piece’s color space composition our physical experience intertwines with theses architectural elements and the wall.
In his artist statement, Haupt writes: "My studio focuses on investigating the production of painting and space. The projects comprise series of drawings and paintings as well as objects and installations. The material and contextual conditions determine how I investigate the medium of painting and the ways in which color spaces are perceived and experienced. Tethering my work to production and process stretches it between formal and farther-reaching questions about human space."
Henning Haupt has exhibited his paintings and installations at many venues, including the Wenzel-Hablik- Museum, Germany, in 2016 and the Coral Springs Museum of Art, Florida, USA, in 2014. Haupt was a Dresden Fellow at TU Dresden in 2019 and an Artist-in-Residence at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado, USA, in 2016 and at the Brush Creek Foundation of Art in Wyoming in 2014. In 2013, he was awarded the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship and exhibited at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale.
Since 2020, Haupt has held the Chair for Foundations of Art and Architecture at the Institute of Buildings and Design, Faculty of Architecture, TU Dresden Germany. Before this, he was an Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University and a Research Associate at TU Braunschweig, where he completed his PhD (Dr.Ing.) with a dissertation on color and space in painting and architecture.
