Historic Buttonball Tree Preserved

In April 2021, Brian Kane, MA Arborists Association professor in the Department of Environmental Conservation, wrote about the importance to preserve the historic Buttonball tree in Sunderland – the largest tree in MA — that was then at risk from a  reconstruction project. Brian notes in his article that the tree has been there for hundreds of years. Frank Waugh in 1938 sketched this tree. The etching by Waugh is on display at the at the Exhibition: A Landscape Legacy.

Fall 2024 Walking Tour

Join us for a walking tour of the arboretum on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 4pm. Meet at the entrance to the DuBois Library. Learn about the arboretum’s most notable specimens, gardens, and historic landscapes. The tour will be led by Waugh Arboretum Committee members including Michael Amato and Todd Cournoyor. The tour lasts for 1.5 - 2 hours. All are welcome.
