The Arboretum Committee acknowledges the contributions by faculty, students and alumni whose efforts, past and present, build, preserve and maintain the Waugh Arboretum. Their work includes development of the Campus Tree Finder map, the certification of the Arboretum as a Tree Campus USA and for their work in planning and volunteering at Arbor Days.
Robert is vegetation manager at Eversource Energy. Robert works closely with our utility arboretum. He is an alum of the Stockbridge School of Agriculture.
In 2015 Todd created the Waugh Arboretum Campus Tree Viewer now known as the Campus Tree Finder. Todd is an alum of UMass and is Senior Consultant to Urban Forestry at Davey Resource Group. He was the Arborist and Urban Forester at UMass where he worked for many years.
Chris is an alum of UMass and is manager of plant production at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. Chris worked at UMass as a GIS Arborist where he created and maintained the GIS arboretum inventory map.
Thank you Dr. Dirr for your benevolence to UMass - its landscape plants and trees. Dr. Dirr received his doctorate from UMass. Dr. Dirr was a special guest at the 2017 Arbor Day celebration at UMass. Dr. Dirr is the author of Manual of Woody Landscape Plants Their Identification, Ornamental Characteristics, Culture, Propogation & Uses, now in its 6th edition.
For most people who work with trees, Dr. Michael Dirr needs no introduction. He is the author of numerous books on woody plants that have become staples on our desks. He also has some New England roots, as he earned his PhD from UMass. His fingers are always on the pulse of the nursery industry, scouting for new introductions, and having himself introduced 15 trees into commerce. Dennis is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Environmental Conservation where he was Program Coordinator of the Arboriculture/Urban Forest Program. The New England Chapter - International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) created an award in his name: The Dr. H. Dennis P. Ryan III Award
