Lynnette Leidy Sievert, anthropology, presented her research at the 2023 Menopause Society annual meeting. Sievert and her team have uncovered that hot flashes occur even in cold weather through the activation of brown adipose tissue (BAT) that produces heat to maintain body temperature: women with higher levels of BAT activity had more hot flashes.
