Biography:
- Md Mahabubur Rahaman is an environmental anthropologist whose research focuses on environmental governance, political ecology, climate adaptation, and development in coastal South Asia. His work examines how environmental knowledge is produced, translated, and mobilized within policy processes, and how these dynamics shape resource access, livelihoods, and social inequalities.
His research also explores the interactions among state institutions, international development organizations, scientific experts, and local communities in addressing environmental change. Drawing on political ecology and environmental anthropology, he investigates how environmental policies and development interventions are designed, implemented, and experienced on the ground, with particular attention to questions of power, knowledge, and justice.
His current research examines how climate and environmental policies are produced and implemented in coastal Bangladesh. He investigates how different forms of knowledge—including scientific expertise, policy frameworks, and local experiences—shape environmental decision-making.
