This program is grant-funded and limited to Massachusetts residents only.

Funding to offset the costs for this training comes from FDA Grant Agreement #U18FD005904 for The Integration and Implementation of FDA's Produce Safety Rule and The Commonwealth Quality Program.

The training will take place over 2 days**:

  • Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 9am to 2pm
  • Friday, January 23, 2026 from 9am to 2pm

**You must attend all modules on both days. to receive a certificate of attendance

The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training Course covers the practices and regulations contained in the FSMA Produce Safety Rule (PSR). It is the first step growers in Massachusetts should complete on their path to compliance with the Rule and/or participation in the Commonwealth Quality audit program (CQP). The PSA Grower Training Course is a critical requirement of the PSR for those farms covered under the rule, however, the training is offered to all growers, independent of coverage.

Who Should Attend:

Fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and co-management of natural resources and food safety. This course will also cover the Massachusetts Commonwealth Quality Program (CQP), a voluntary 3rd-party audit program.

This training satisfies the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement for covered farms that "at least one supervisor or responsible party" completes "food safety training … recognized as adequate” by FDA (21 C.F.R. §112.22(c)).

For more information on the Produce Safety Alliance and the Grower Training Course, see: https://producesafetyalliance.cornell.edu/training/grower-training-courses.

 Technology requirements:

  • This class will be offered online using Zoom. A link will be provided upon registration.
  • You must be present for the entirety of the course if you wish to receive the PSA certificate.
  • Please have a laptop or desktop computer with built-in video or external webcam and microphone with sufficient internet connectivity for the duration of the course. Phones or tablets are discouraged--you want to be sure you can be comfortable and attentive for the duration of the course.
  • If you are taking the course in the same physical space as someone else, it is recommended to use headphones to minimize background noise and feedback.
  • Computer camera must be on the entire class time. Some exceptions made for participants with limited bandwidth, though attendees will be asked to turn on their cameras periodically to ensure attendance. Breaks will be built into each day.

How to Participate

Registration is limited to 30 participants. In the event that the course fills up, registration priority will be given to farms that are required to receive training to comply with federal and state produce safety regulations and/or Commonwealth Quality certification.

Because space is limited and manuals are shipped to participants ahead of time, please be mindful that your registration indicates a commitment to attend. Certificates of attendance will only be issued to those who are present for all modules on both days.
