UMass Extension Pesticide Education conducted pesticide recertification training workshops during the Fall 2025. These workshops were designed to provide both licensed and certified applicators with current information regarding the safe and effective use of pesticides. Applicators can gain contact hours towards recertification in addition to a current understanding of pesticide issues and their responsibilities as pesticide applicators in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The UMass Extension Pesticide Education team has no plans to offer recertification training workshops in Spring 2026. See below for workshops offered by other UMass Extension teams. It is your responsibility to select workshops that are appropriate for your license or certification.

Common Questions
Can I attend recertification workshops held by other New England states?
Yes, Massachusetts has reciprocity agreements with other New England for recertification training. You can obtain contact hours through workshops offered by other New England states. However, these workshops have to be appropriate for the type of pesticide license that you have as well as not be about a state specific issue (such as Maine State Pesticide Laws). If you have questions about these workshops you must contact the meeting organizer. UMass Extension is not responsible for workshops held outside of our organization.
How many contact hours are needed?
Massachusetts Department Agricultural Resources (MDAR) recertification training requirements are summarized below for each license category within a three-year period.
| License | Contact Hours |
|---|---|
| Dealer's License | 3 |
| Applicator's License | 6 |
| Private Certification | 12 |
| Commercial Certification** | 12 |
| **Must receive 12 contact hours in each category. | |
How do I prove that I attended these workshops?
You will receive a UMass Extension Certificate of Attendence when you attend these UMass Extension workshops. You are responsible for holding onto these forms and uploading the forms to your state license ePLACE Portal during pesticide license renewal time.
Are these the only workshops that offer contact hours?
No, there are several groups that sponsor programs which include pesticide recertification training. Check with your professional association.
Does UMass Extension offer any other training?
