With technology playing an increasingly important role in the way we live and work., 4‑H and Google are working together for a first-of-its-kind computer science (CS) collaboration that will teach kids both technical skills like coding, and essential skills students will need in the future like, teamwork , problem solving and resilience utilized plugged and unplugged activities. In 2017 the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that in just three years there will be 1.4 million computer science-related jobs, and only 400,000 qualified job candidates.
With Google’s support, 4‑H is equipping community educators with curriculum, training, devices and the support of Google CS experts. As with most 4‑H programs, the effort will feature teen-led, peer-to-peer mentoring. “In 2019 our CS Teen team from Upton MA won one of the National awards for their 2018 efforts with National Youth Science Day “Game Changers” winning $1,000 in which they donated $500 to a local charity during Covid-19.” Kim Pond
