Early Fall Greenhouse Lunchtime Webinar 2025

Join UMass Extension's Greenhouse Program via GoToWebinar on September 9, 2025, from 12 pm - 1:30 pm, for a webinar that will provide you with practical solutions and useful tips on how to manage biotic and abiotic problems of fall crops. Information on funding opportunities for clean energy and other incentives for greenhouse operations will also be provided during this webinar.

One pesticide credit in categories 26, 29, 31 and 000 has been approved for this program. Credit is valid for equivalent categories in all New England states.

Agenda

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Managing abiotic and biotic problems of fall crops

Dr. Josh Henry, Technical Services Specialist, Ball Seed Company

Fall pansies, ornamental kale and cabbage, and ornamental peppers provide growers with an option for extending the production schedule into the fall season. This presentation will discuss practical solutions for common abiotic problems such as bolting and tip burn in kale and cabbage, fruit drop in peppers and purpling in pansies. Tips on how to manage major pests and diseases of these crops will also be provided in this presentation.

1:00 pm – 1:30 pm: Incentive Programs for Agricultural Energy Improvements

Griffin Pelaia, Agricultural and Energy Engineer, UMass Extension

This presentation will provide an overview of state and federal funding programs that support on-farm energy projects, with a focus on NRCS cost-share opportunities and other clean energy incentives for greenhouse operations.
