UMass Extension Small Fruit Educator John Galvan has been awarded a Northeast SARE Research and Education Grant to support blueberry growers across Massachusetts and the Northeast. His project, “Blueberry School,” was one of only 7 proposals funded out of 95 submissions and received $137,000 in support.
This work will focus on strengthening grower education around blueberry horticulture, plant health, disease management, and integrated pest management. Through hands-on workshops, grower trainings, and applied field-based education, the project will help blueberry growers make practical management decisions that improve plant productivity, fruit quality, and long-term farm sustainability.
The project will support educational programming for commercial blueberry growers throughout Massachusetts and the Northeast, with an emphasis on grower-centered learning, field demonstrations, and regionally relevant recommendations.
Northeast SARE is a USDA-funded program that supports farmer-focused research and education projects designed to advance sustainable agriculture across the region.
