Sunflare Set to Overturn Cosmic Crisp

  • Researchers at Washington State University developed a new apple variety called Sunflare by cross-breeding Honeycrisp and Pink Lady apples.
  • The Sunflare will be available for commercial planting in Washington state this spring and is expected to arrive in grocery stores in 2029.
  • In addition to its well-balanced sweet-and-tart profile, Sunflare offers advantages such as a long shelf life and resistance to harsh weather.
