This year marked the successful completion of the fourth UMass Extension Fruit Team and Stockbridge School of Agriculture’s REEU internship: "Engaging Undergraduates in Research and Extension Training using Technology and Experiential Learning to Enhance Sustainability of Food Production Systems". The 2025 cohort consisted of 8 students from UMass, Mount Wachusett Community College and Greenfield High School. Each student planned, implemented, and completed an independent research project. You can watch them present their results here in this recording of the fourth annual REEU Summer Symposium. For a peak into the intern experience, check out this year’s podcast here.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the folks who stepped up and provided leadership, ensuring both individual student and overall program success: The REEU Staff: John Galván Research and Program Coordinator, Caitlyn Alisauskas and Samina Mian REEU 2023 alumna and 2025 cohort mentors; Student Research Mentors: Dr. Jaime Piñero (Associate Director and Extension Professor, SSA), Ajay Giri (graduate student, Piñero Lab), Dr. Rachel Hestrin (Assistant Professor, SSA), Dan Meyers (graduate student, Hestrin Lab), Aizah Khurram (graduate student, Hestrin Lab), Dr. Jianyu Li (Extension Assistant Professor, SSA), Seven Liu (research assistant, Li Lab), Dr. Robert Wick (professor emeritus, SSA). Without the support of these mentors, and the many others who participated in the program, we would not be able to achieve what we have! Thank you!
