This multi-session educational program grows out of the long-standing international relationship between the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Hokkaido University in Japan, a partnership rooted in shared histories as land-grant institutions and common commitments to agriculture, ecology, and applied science. Over decades, this collaboration has been sustained through formal agreements, faculty exchanges, and joint initiatives that have fostered mutual learning and respect between the two universities. The program reflects the influence of this relationship by drawing inspiration from diverse research traditions, environmental contexts, and systems-based approaches developed through years of collaboration. While the international partnership informs the broader vision of the series, all instruction is delivered by UMass Extension Fruit Team faculty and staff. Together, the program acknowledges the value of this historic collaboration while advancing UMass Extension’s mission of practical, science-based education.
