March was warmer than the 30-year average, with below average rainfall, above average sunshine and no snowfall. The temperatures averaged 40.32 degrees, 3.28 degrees per day above the 30-year average. Maximum temperature for the month was 64 degrees on the 11th and a minimum temperature of 13 degrees was recorded on the 4th and 14 degrees on the 3rd. The average temperature for the 3rd and 4th was 23 degrees and was followed by an average temperature of 41 degrees on the 5th and 6th, this providing a freeze and thaw cycle. This could have had an impact on winter injury being reported. Daytime high temperatures averaged 49.94 degrees, 4.6 degrees above the norm. Evening temperatures averaged 30.71 degrees, 1.8 degrees above the norm.
Sunshine totaled 52% of possible sunshine hours, 4% below the average. Sunshine data are from the Blue Hill Observatory where 166 sunshine hours were recorded for the month. Year-to-date sunshine for 2025 are 74 points above normal.
Precipitation totaled 3.74 inches. This is 1.65 inches below normal. We had measurable precipitation of 0.10 inches or greater on 6 days. The largest 24-hour rainfall was 1.64 inches on the 18th. We have received a total of 9.78 inches of precipitation year-to-date, 3.29 inches below the average for East Wareham and 9.12 inches less than 2024 at this point. We had no measurable snowfall. The long-term snowfall for March is 5.34 inches.
